Default Advice needed - 2 Sided tape for Carbon Fiber/Baggs True Mic

Just tried to install the true mic in a Rainsong and the 2 sided tape is not going to work. There is no adhesion at all.

Any suggestions for a carbon fiber guitar that doesn’t involve glue?

Has anyone tried putty or other……

Are you attempting to not use any inherent UST system for whatever reason that came with your RainSong?

Yep, the guitar had the Fishman barndoor preamp with a UST.
Never liked it. Picked up a used Anthem pro.
Got everything installed (including a retrofit for the preamp) but the True mic not sticking is the last hurdle.

I would be ok with glue if, after a trial period I decided I like it.

I have used this (purchased at Home Depot, not Lowes, but same product) on my McPherson Sable and Emerald X20. Works great. Removable if needed (though it’s a pretty strong grip). The roll I’ve got says “24 lb”, I don’t know if it’s a different strength or different size than the “30 lb” shown here but it’s what they had available locally. Holds the preamp /control unit in place too. Trim to fit as you like.

Thanks. I’ll give it a try.
Does the Sable have a textured Surface where the bridge plate would be.

It does. But the tape holds the volume control just fine on the rougher parts of the top. And on the X20’s bridge plate, which is also rougher. I have Lyrics in both of those guitars.

I think I have some of the putty that the Schatten HFN uses left over. That would likely work well for at least a temporary fix to make sure you like it. I'm happy to send some to you. Also, while I'm thinking about it, did you try any 'prep' of the underside of the bridge/area where you plan to attach it? I know from past experience with Emerald guitars that you need to do a little sanding to attach those types of surface mount items.

The Scotch Extreme tape did the trick.
Thanks

I would think Bluestar's tape would be good. I did some google search into 3M tapes. For a SBT like a HiFi or other, you want something thin so vibrations will be transmitted through the tape well. For the internal mic, I imagine the sound comes mostly from the air, not the vibrations. Bluestar's tape is thicker than most SBT adhesion tapes, but appears to be stronger. Plus the thicker tape might bridge the non-uniformities in the RainSong surface better.

Though, on review, I installed a Hi-Fi in the RainSong I sold recently. It worked quite fine with the thin 3M tape that comes with the HiFi.

I’ve only played it through my home studio monitors…….so far

Big improvement over the Fishman Prefix that was in there.

Over the next week or so I’ll play with the mic-ust settings until I settle on the best mix. With the Stage pro I was under the assumption that I could have the option for all mic or all UST. That is not the case. The mic will always have the UST as part of the mix.

Still, though not as sweet as the Anthem in my wood guitars, it is a tangible and usable improvement over the Fishman.
