Default Feedback supressor with the Fishman Matrix pickup

My Martin has the Fishman Matrix pickup. I've had some feedback happen. the volume and Fishman's tone controls are inside the sound hole. Would it still be of some benefit to install a sound hole cover even though I will need to cut a hole in it near the back edge to access the volume and tone control?

Yes, just cut out a section so that you can reach the controls,
