Have any of you tried using a Pykmax?
The thread about thumbpicks included a link to an online retailer called thepickshoppe.com, and one of the picks that they carry is this Pykmax:
The Pykmax A bit different, eh? It looks like something Judy Jetson would use on HER guitar! Judy Jetson at a gig Looking at that first photo, I couldn't figure out how to hold the darn thing. That must not be an uncommon reaction, because they provided a couple more photos: Top View Back View Anyway, have any of you tried one of these? If so, how did you like it? In the meantime, party on, all you futuristic rock stars! ˙˙˙ Wade Hampton Miller Last edited by Wade Hampton; 03-18-2017 at 02:47 PM. |

Never seen it but it looks way more complicated for me. I keep 3-5 picks in my pocket. I don't see that fitting in my jeans.

crikey checking in reporting never having tried it, and ZERO interest in doing so. But my hat's off to anyone who finds musical inspiration using it or anything else I can't wrap my head (or hand) around.

I'm sure players who, like me, have developed arthritis in their thumb/fingers from fifty years of playing would be very interested in the Pykmax.
I have difficulty nowadays holding on to a flat-pick, my goofy, arthritic thumb-joint, plus very dry skin, make it necessary to use Pick Honey (like Gorilla Snot) in order to get some grip. That Pykmax looks like a cleaner solution, just so long as the player can get used to it. As soon as they become available in the UK, I'll give it a try. EDIT: Just ordered a Pykmax from Amazon.com, should arrive here within 14 days. I'll report back.

I'm curious why you're interested in one.
I bought one from Amazon and tried it. Didn't care for it. Just tried it again after reading this, and tried it again. Still don't care for it. HOWEVER, the reason I don't care for it is that I simply find that way of holding the pick (even without the Pykmax device) to feel very odd. So, I bought the Pykmax as a tool to TRY to help me get used to holding a pick in that manner. Just didn't seem to work for me. Maybe if I played with it for months it would "correct: the way I use a pick. So, I'd say IF you're trying to use it as a way to get yourself (or somebody else?) to hold the pick "correctly", it's probably worth a try. I think that's what it's designed for, really? But for me, it just didn't work. Still, it seems like a good idea . . . as a training tool. |
