Default What are your favorite back and sides you've ever seen?

Hello,

It's a holiday, and after stuffing myself with turkey and all the sides, I would like some guitar eye candy.

I ran across this amazing Greven prairie state with Macassar Ebony back and sides. What back and sides stand out in your mind for their visual beauty?

Thanks.

I like that very well. Congrats on the guitar. I really like my Seagull S6 with the wild cherry back and sides. Has interesting wood grain patterns and are very visible.

Oh, I don't own it, just saw it online. I wish I owned it!

I've seen so many beautiful ones on here that I wouldn't know where to start, so I will show you the favorites of the ones I've owned.

Here's an interesting cocobolo Charis I used to own:

And a really nice mahogany Caldwell that I have for sale in the classified section right now:

But I shouldn't say favorites: my preference is really for straight grain, well quartered stuff that is not that visually eye-catching.

This is the most striking of the ones I own. It's an EIR back to a Bourgeois redwood OM.

For me it was the incredible Braz on the back and sides of the 1969 Martin D-12-35 I owned for many years. Wish I'd taken some pics...

My favorite back is on my 1977 Kazuo Yairi. It's two-layer parallel grain Coral Rosewood. The guitar is currently on permanent loan to a granddaughter:

The Brazilian on this '58 D-28 is outstanding for patterned old growth rosewood.

As is this on what I think is a '59 D-28E conversion belonging to a friend...

Here's a nice one from "hobby builder" Jared Booth, from a thread over in custom builds. It's not just the wood that can be spectacular! He's building this for his daughter - how cool is that?
