Default Engelmann Spruce / Black Walnut

Not quite NGD (custom build from a few years ago) but as I go through the rotation, this 12-fret slope-shoulder dread built by Alex Edney (https://www.edney-guitars.com/) of Hiram, ME stands out.

Balance/Clarity: Warm, soft and sweet to big, bold and loud.

That is beautiful. That burst has a depression-era feel. Very cool.

Walnut makes beautiful back and sides. I am also a big fan of Engelmann tops. My J-45 Custom Shop has Engelmann over Koa.

I agree. In fact, the whole body is a hand-rubbed finish including the burst. No spray. He (Alex Edney) is a true craftsman. He studied under a master builder in Japan.

From the first time I heard it, walnut has been my favorite B/S tonewood. I can't describe it, but it really works for me.

I own a Larrivee OM-03W with black walnut back and sides and an Engelmann spruce top. It’s a great tonewood combination; the walnut gives the guitar some bark and the Engelmann spruce gives it sweetness.

Thanks for posting images of that lovely guitar.
I think Alex's finishes are just killer beautiful - just check the one out on his launch page. One of the nicest I have ever seen: https://www.edney-guitars.com/handmade-guitars.

Maine is a small state, but with a deep luthier bench, including Bourgeois, Circa (Slobod), Brondel, Arcara, Appolinio, Pinkham, Edney and others.

I'm thinking of having him build me an OM this year.

Don't blame you. I am not much of a burst guy, but that "seasoned" finish truly just slays me. Is that on your "want list?

I am not typically a fan of burst finishes, but this one just hits different. It ties to that headstock perfectly, and is just all kinds of classy... stunning guitar.

Yep, Engelman / black walnut is a magical combo! I have a Martin OM in that combo; has been my favorite guitar since 2008. Love the headstock logo on that one!

Wow, this is a new-to-me builder! Absolutely beautiful instruments - right in line w/my low-bling aesthetic. Nice material combo too.
