Great idea for a thread! I just absolutely LOVE The Band... have done since the Brown Album came out in '69...

I used to tell people that The Band was my favorite American group... and then later realized that they were all Canadian, save for Levon Helm! So, I guess they are my favorite North American group!

I do a few of their tunes when I perform; don't have any that are "up to snuff" that are recorded. I've been dragging my feet about doing any recording since my major setback three years ago... but this may be the impetus I've needed to record something of theirs!

Funny - as long as I have listened to it, the Brown Album (The Band) has grown more and more in my estimation... every song, EVERY SONG, is worthwhile and spectacular! It still blows my mind that Robbie wrote so many tunes that captured "Americana", being so young and not even from this country!

As a side note - if you love their stuff, get a hold of the remixed/remastered versions that Robbie did several years back... "Stage Fright" is absolutely awesome! He put the songs in the order that he would have done, had he not been confronted by the limitations of vinyl recording... the companion CD is a stellar live show in England, ~1970, The Royal Albert Hall, I think... and it is simply stunning! I saw a LOT of different shows by a LOT of different bands, back in the day, but this set is just incredible, as a piece! I also have the Brown Album that he redid, and it's good, as well... and the companion CD on that one is the groups set from Woodstock - and they pretty much killed it! Much better sound and performance than a lot of what I heard on the "Woodstock" record...

Ray - it does my heart good to know that you love this group! I knew I liked you...

I'd forgotten that I did a version of "When You Awake" and had it on SoundCloud; here t'is! Not the best rendition I've ever done, but it's what I've got to share right now...

Played my Mark Angus 12 string, recorded straight into a Tascam DR-05 with no signal processing or post production... sitting in a corner area, about 3' from junction of the walls, trying to get a little bit of room reverb in the recording.

John, that is a great tune, of course, and you did a nice job with it--sounds fantastic with that nice 12-string. Thank you for sharing with us Band heads!

Nice one John, yet another wonderful song from that album. I’ve tried it, just can’t do a thing with it! Your version sounds really nice. Nice slow tempo too…

Default All La Glory

Mixing isn't my strong suit, and drums were added as an afterthought. Not to mention, I'm playing the bass. You've been warned.

I do occasional family song projects on GarageBand. Just for fun. This thread made me want to try All La Glory, which is among my favorite Band songs.

Thank you for the kind words.
