TUSQ !!
I broke a bit of the end of the saddle getting it out to file it down on my Yamaha FS800, so I used the opportunity to replace it with a $12 Tusq saddle.
With only that change- same nut, pins and strings otherwise- IMMEDIATE better tone- more ringing sustain- I am impressed and will be making changes to this and other guitars over time- maybe a Tusq part or two a month. [https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SCuUIJVp8mA/] |

On most of my stringed instruments I have bone appointments, but on some guitars I’ve found that either Tusq or micarta are the best choices.
Each guitar responds a bit differently to these materials, so you may find that you like Tusq on some instruments more than others. It’s not automatically better on all guitars, but it’s definitely worth experimenting with. Have fun with it. Wade Hampton Miller |

My luthiers prefer GraphTech over bone but leave it to the customer to decide. I used GraphTech on all my electrics except for a couple where I lost track.

On my 2 custom shop J-45s, one has a bone saddle while the other is Tusq.
My ears cant tell the difference. Bone densitys can vary but I think Tusq is a great alternative.
