D'addario and Martin strings ... Gold cores?
I've been using D'addario Pb ej17s since god was a lad, I buy ten packs and have discovered that the cores on the latest pack are now gold coloured.
... and ... I recently bought some Martins MSP4200s . They also have gold cores AND gold colour 1st and 2nd. I've never seen gold cores or strings before! What is this? (a cynic would suspect that one maker is supplying another brand ??? )

D'Addario strings have had the gold cores for at least the three or four years I've been using them. Before that I was buying Elixers and John Pearse. I think they have been doing it for quite a while.

Likewise some Martins have been gold for years. To mind the MSP16's are called bronze-steel. Whatever replacement under the new system for the MSP16's might also have the bronze/gold strings.

Hi,
it would appear that these "gold" cored D'addarios are new to the Uk, ergo - we are getting/using old stock! I got a response from D'addario : "Hello, Thank you for your e-mail. The cores are now brass tinned. Will not impact anything playing-wise. Just a little more protection. George Santos" A tad terse I thought. I just went online to buy some mre Martin SPs - sold out! Hmph!
