If you can find one, the Martin Norman Blake 000-28 just might fit the bill. It was also made in mahogany, the NB 000-18.

It is the standard 000 body shape, however the bridge is shifted back and the neck joins at the 12 fret, giving it the feel of playing Capo II. Mine holds its own and then some in bass, mid-range and trebles with the various other drednoughts that seem to dominate the bluegrass scene. Great fingerpicker too.

Here's the D-18VS I mentioned earlier:

I had tried many including Collings, before deciding on this Smeck model by Dale Fairbanks, in Windsor, CT. Full, rich sound and has that old Gibson bark too, which was very important to me.

I'd gladly trade a new J-45 and some cash for a D-18VS

I bet that's a great instrument Looburst, I have a Santa Cruz "RS" which I suppose is to similar dimensions - short scale of course - and technically not a dreadnought (Martin design) but a form of Gibson style Jumbo.

No thanks, Mr. J.

Now, that SC 1929 00, that would be another story!

Yes Andy, I would guess your Santa Cruz RS would sound very similar to my Fairbanks.
