Not sure if this was mentioned or not (don't think it was) but one thing I always recommend to someone with a set budget looking to pick up a Taylor is think about getting a used one.
For $1700 you can probably pick up a used 500 or 600 series from a forum member (assuming someone is selling one). Most people on this forum (to my knowledge) take excellent care of their instruments. Just a thought.
