Your question is too specific. Can you you make it a little broader? (insert sarcasm here)

Besides, you have at least an entire page of necrobumpers ahead of you. (Although, the "page 20" thing, should have given you a hint the thread's been around for quite a while). Back to the antiquated topic. My favorite female singer songwriter is Elton John, or possibly Mary-Chapin Carpenter. I'd say Loreena McKennitt, but she does a bunch of adaptations of literature, and I forget offhand, which material she does where she's written the lyrics. |

Had to mention Susan Tedeschi in this thread because of this! Outrageously good.

Jesse Colter
Absolutely one of the very best songwriter/singer/musician. Here are two of her songs as an example. "I'm Not Lisa" "What's Happened to Blue Eyes" |

Joni Mitchell, Tift Merritt, Terra Naomi
There are so many great singer/songwriters that are also guitarists...I'm not sure if their sex has anything to do with it. Here's 3 of my all-time favorites:
Joni Mitchell - no examples necessary...everyone's familiar with Joni...her Blue album is one of the best albums ever produced! A couple of other favorites of mine, not so well known, follow; I looked for earlier less produced performances to better showcase their raw talent. Tift Merritt - Terra Naomi - Ooops...both of these artists are guitarists as well: Terra Naomi - Tift Merritt -

I think I responded to this same thread about a year ago.
I don't think any list would be complete without Nancy Wilson from Heart. A terrific player. |
