Question Acoustic guitar vocalists

At the moment, I know James Taylor and Don McLean to be the outstanding vocalists whose acoustic guitars are unceasingly heard in their music. I have a deep appreciation for singers who fall in this category. Could anyone of you please introduce me to any other singers of like kind?

Heck, I don't care even if they play a Martin! I know Don McLean does.

Hooked on to Jim Croce since 25 year ago.
Too bad most of the CDs have bad recording quality. There is suppose to be a DVD of Croce coming out in Nov. I know I will get that one.

For some breath taking quality recording I recommend the Peter, Paul and Mary in Concert 2CD set. Great songs, great performance and audiophile reference quality recording.

Bert Jansch!

OK - you wouldn't say that he has an amazing voice, but it is perfectly suited to the music he plays.

in case you don't know who he is, he used to be in the folk/baroque group Pentangle in the late 60s/early 70s, plus he also released many good solo albums before and after that time period.

He is a first class guitarist!

recommended albums include Bert jansch, Jack Orion, and Rosemary Lane.

heck, he may even have a website these days.

try out www.bertjansch.com and see if that gets you anywhere.

edit: I tried out the link and it works a-ok.

Ditto on Jim Croce (my hero) and Cat Stevens.

Other vocalists who do a lot of acoustic guitar music are as follows:

Stephen Curtis Chapman (not all of his stuff is acoustic),
Neil Young,
Bob Dylan,
CSNY,
Seals and Crofts,
Dan Fogelberg,
The Eagles,
America,
Bread

These are mostly "oldies but goodies." Let me know if this is close to your taste and I still have a few more if you want.

I've always liked David Wilcox's voice. He sounds a bit like James Taylor...plus he's a great fingerstyle guitarist.

I've got one of his older CD's called "Home Again" and I really like it. He get's a lot of criticism for his songs sounding the same, but who cares what the critics think.

I've always been a Harry Chapin fan. When I was 15, I had the chance to sit in with him after a soundcheck. He was performing at my high school that night, and was just kinda' hanging around between the check and the show.

One of the most genuinely nicest people I've ever had the chance to meet, and certainly the writer of some great songs...

I am going to give you the link to Jack Williams.

He is one of the least known, but most respected "road dogs"
out there. The link is to his web site. From there you can
click on a video concert. Believe me, it is worth watching.

The web address is: www.jackwilliamsmusic.com

Once there, scroll down the page until you see:

"......At the Java Pump, Kerrville, Tx."

Click on that and enjoy.....

Would like to get your reaction. I saw him about four weeks ago in concert. Absolutely outstanding songwriter/guitarist/singer.

p.s. I previewed this post, doesn't look like it's a "hot" link.
If not, just type in www.jackwilliamsmusic.com

Been listening to "Heavier Things" today so I'll go with John Mayer.

Red face

While I definitely agree with Steve314 about Harry Chapin ("You can always count on the cheap seats!"), I can't believe no one has mentioned Gordon Lightfoot! BTW, a friend back in the old college days (late '70's) attended a benefit concert in Detroit entitled "Four Together", which featured Lightfoot, Chapin, James Taylor and John Denver in the round...just the four of them with their guitars trading songs back and forth. Wish I coulda been there!!!
