Default Vintgage Irish Lowden, Jim Williams Dread

Here are 2 wonderful guitars for sale. The first is a vintage Irish made Lowden(sub 1000 serial number).
This one screams "MOJO!". It was reported to have been cherry picked by a studio jazz session guitarist and has made its way into my stable. I personally have had over 40 lowdens and this one hands down is in the top 5. Jumbo o sized body with spruce top and mahogany back and sides. The s7 had a 1 piece mahogany neck. It does have an under the saddle pick up that was in the guitar when I purchased it. I do not know the brand. The guitar has some character marks but no structural issues and plenty of saddle left. This is a rare opportunity on an old school lowden. Sold as is with green vintage hiscox case.

The second up is a lovely dreadnaught from the late Jim Williams from down under. Jim built wonderful guitars and passed away a few years back.
This dread is a players guitar-It has a huge voice that sings like a vintage dread. The guitar sports a sitka spruce top and east indian rosewood back and sides that help sculpt the sound. This guitar is well played and is far from perfect. Recently set up and given the once over at Southeastern Guitar repair in Buford,Georgia this September. The guitar is ready to play.
Model wd40
1 3/4 inch nut
16 inch bout
4 inches deep at the neck
5 inches at the base
lr baggs
hard shell case
2400+ shipping
It is an older guitar so it is as is but priced to move.

The S7 was only built from 1987 to 1990.
Rare bird of course !
It was an attempt to build a less expensive Lowden guitar and save the company but it failed and Lowden had to agree a receivership by the end of November1988.

During the first year of Irish license (1989), the S7 was continued in the same Bangor facilities as previously (Lowden and family lived in France, near the Swiss border).

A few S7 were eventually built in the "new" Newtownards facility until the end of 1990.

Those with the golden decal were mainly built before 1990 (only the serial number could tell) but a few "Newtownards" born S7 still featured the "golden decal" logo in 1990 along with others showing a "bold" pearl logo...

So, if this guitar is really under serial #1000, it was built by George Lowden and a small team in Bangor, N.I.

According to Johnny Lowden (son of George) the S7 had a Sitka Spruce top, unless it reads "Special" on the label.
This one looks like Spruce and its label doesn't seem to have anything "special"on it

I'd be very happy to know the serial number and, if you don't want to make it public, you're welcome to send me a picture in MP

You are right on all of the above. It does have a spruce top I have an old l25 that I was thinking about when I wrote the above. The serial number is 940. I have had multiple sub 1000 lowdens and in my opinion they are some of the best. I played this one tonight and it is really phenomenal. I have had some wrist issues that are aggravated by the larger body guitars otherwise I would not sell this one.

Congratulations, it's actually one of the first S7 built in 1987 and yours seems to be in a pristine condition...
Somebody should grab it and become a happier guitarist

This is the one for you. I had 3 30th anniversay ones and this one hand down smokes them. They were much prettier though...
