Ill take three. Variety counts with me. One OM, one 000, one dread sounds good. For a guy like me that does not play/record for a living I dont know how much more guitar 3000 dollars will buy. I mean, after your done A/B'ing yourself silly your stuck with the tone you bought so it does not matter anymore.

Definitely one $4.5k guitar. To me, a great guitar is a great guitar. I have a Goodall dread, adi top, braz back and sides, it does everything I need a guitar to do. I am mostly a flatpick, but it sounds great fingerstyle.

Hah, can I have one electric? If I had 4.5k, i'd distribute it between an acoustic 12 string jumbo, an om, and a semi hollow archtop.

I will say 3 because I am one of those that likes having one room to room to have to play with.

why not five $900 guitars?

how about two nice $2250 guitars?

For me, I would prefer four $1125 guitars

Actually I would like one $1350 guitar, one $1000, one $750 guitar, one $450 guitar, one $100 ukulele, a $300 mandolin, a $250 amp, and a $300 guitar

Variety for me, I'd split the 4500 and buy 3 great used guitars.

In fact, a year or so ago I did that exact thing. I sold my one very valuable guitar, an Olson SJ and with the proceeds now have:
-Martin 00018GE
-Avalon A10c (Cedar topped)
-Gibson WM-45
-Raleigh full carbon road bike and all the many accessories needed
-$1000 left over in the guitar fund

Couldn't be happier and no regrets

Leaving aside the price question, I'll answer if I would want three pretty good guitars for the same total price as one great guitar.

No. Because I play great guitars, and know what the difference is.

I'd rather have one really awesome guitar over a bunch of average guitars (this applies to anything for me really)

Unless you buy used. Might take a while and you may loose a little money, however you shouldn't be stuck with any guitar you don't really enjoy.

Well ... by your description, I actually have three "pretty good" guitars now.

- a 2012 Martin D-18
- a 2011 Tayor GA3
- a 2011 Eastman AC508M

Would I trade them all for a $4,500 guitar?

I've honestly thought about it from time to time ... there are certainly some super guitars at that price point that fascinate me.

But, when I get serious about things, I realize that my ability is pretty much maximized by the guitars I have and getting a $4,500 instrument isn't likely to make me a better player all by itself.

Also, I play in some pretty rambunctious venues from time to time and I wouldn't want to risk my $4,500 guitar to damage/theft.

So no, I probably would not choose one $4,500 guitar over three that have an average value of $1,500 each.

Yeah, that's kind of what I did. Seems like the opinions are split 50/50.
