Default Roland Guitar Synths

I am thinking of buying one and would like input from anyone who owns one and uses it with their acoustic.

I don't own a GR-33. However, I do have a VG-8 sound modeler, which I really like. It's great for all kinds of applications, because it lets you use different amp models and it lets you control the pitch for each string. Which is great, if you play in different tunings.
I would look into both. However, you will need a GK pickup system for either on of them. You have to install one on your your guitar or you have to buy a guitar with GK pickup installed.
check out info on the VG system here
