Thanks for laying it out plainly. I am anxious to be able to play one of your instruments sometime. Will you be at Healdsburg next summer?

Posting here about religion is supposed to be poor form. But in reality is allowed for Christian views. That's my only real concern. The rest is just offering the opinion that not everyone who might be put off by the "Worship Guitar" concept, is put off because they don't agree with the content, but that they don't see the need for the delivery of the content in the format of a headstock. Which may well have already been considered, but since I don't know that, I thought it okay to add. Since a religious discussion was getting under way... |

I have wanted to get one of John Mayes' guitars for a long while. Once I chose to leave my profession and go into ministry, I am not able to afford one right now. But I hope that in the future, I will. Has nothing to do with his faith, but with how he handles himself and is really a great guy that builds beautiful guitars. I suppose that has a lot to do with his faith though. And with Peter it is the same way.

Yes, let's talk about this guitar.
Just a personal preference thing here. Do you think it would be nicer to take the top plates and align the grain? In this top, the grain is spreading out from bottom to top. If the grain has to spread, I'd prefer it to spread the opposite direction. Am I alone in that preference? There is nothing wrong with doing it either way. Is that a little bear claw in the top? Nice!

Steve,
it always boils down to taste! have you noticed the depth effect on the top? It actually makes the top look larger... kinda like a "flowing effect!

Jim, I really love the figured Camatillo and its not even stained yet.! Boy I think it will look even more brilliant when finished. You're a fortunate man. Please keep us posted on the progress. Also, you mentioned its amini-jumbo, what is the size of the lower bout?
many thanks

In looking at my post, I was not real clear. The grain is not spreading out. That was just a stupid thing to say. What I meant was that the grain on the top side (with out the cutaway) and the grain on the bottom side (with the cutaway) is not parallel. It forms a V shape with the open end of the V at the neck block. I like the grain to be parallel and if not parallel, I like it open towards the end block. Still, a personal taste thing. Sorry for being so unclear earlier. Does this description make more sense?

So, this is an interesting twist. Peter has offered drilled holes in the back bracing. This is a pic of what they look like on the Genesis model.
Here is the anigre/paua rosette inlaid into the top.

Ok, so, in the next couple weeks I have a decision to make. To add a soundport or not. Can I get some opinions from those that build and those that have soundports, those considering them, and those that decided against it? This is one area where I need some advice.
Peter did a nice soundport for his wife on the guitar pictured below. Don't know if I want a flower or not, but maybe a Rutabaga? No? Ostrich? Hmmm, maybe some ideas here too. Plus how will that look with the K&K pickup and mic installed... too many wires visible? http://www.kksound.com/onboardtrinity.html
