Post 80/20 strings

This is probably something I should know but I see the term 80/20 associated with guitar string guages.

What does the 80/20 mean?

Thanks

It has nothing to do with the gauge, it has to do with the material that is wound around the steel cores of the EAD and G strings. 80/20 is bronze, i.e. 80% copper and 20% zinc, hence the golden color you see on them. There are other alloys used on strings and each gives you a different sound. Harder alloys tend to be brighter while softer ones like 80/20 bronze then to be mellower. Harder alloys also tend to wear down your frets much faster.
