I realize this is an older thread but unless I missed it - Does anyone know the difference(s) between theses two models: MD60EBG and MD610EBG ?

It appears the 610 is a Musicians Friend (exclusive) special with different tuners. Does anyone know for sure? Are there any other differences?

The only difference I can see is that the 610 isn't even in Alvarez's catalog. Otherwise the specs are identical. Maybe it's a typo from Musician's Friend and Guitar Center. I believe one is owned by the other. I will say I used own a MD60EBG and it can't be beat anywhere near it's price.

More bling on the MD60eBG and no case with the 610... Same guitar other than that

Electronics is the difference.

I thought it might be that but both list in the description:

Both seem to be minimal bling (in pics). Neither lists case included.

But I do see the specs on the:

MD60EBG state "AAA Sitka Spruce" top..

MD610EBG (on GC's site) states "Sitka Spruce" top.

Hmmm... not sure that really means one is AAA grade - the other isn't

But the tuners are different and GC/MF sells the MD610EBG for about $60.00 less than other dealers sell the MD60EBG

Just curious ... I'd guess the models are so close.... both get rave reviews for the money..

I got lucky and bought mine on Deal of the Day for something like $550..I'm perfectly happy with it after a truss rod adjustment
Plugged-in it doesn't sound as good as my Taylor AD17 but that's no big deal really
Masterworks come with a case as read on Alvarez web site..unless MF/GC are playing games?
Bling..I should of said different supposedly the herringbone around the sound hole is different.

Even after the price increase...it's well worth the money, after the guitars I've played in the last couple of weeks, you would have to get in the $1000+ area to match the fit and finish and tone...

A lot of good info.
Just purchased the MD60BG (back ordered) coming in next month. How are the machine heads on this model? that always seems to be the first thing I end up changing to Gotoh.
Thanks.

Mine are not great. I’ve never even considered changing out tuners on one of my guitars, but this one might be the first. I have to turn and turn and turn to get just a few cents up in pitch. The tuners are the only negative though. The aesthetics and tone and playability are killer! I only had to tweak the truss rod a little after I got it.

I hope you enjoy yours!

I have had my MD60BG for about a year, and I have had no issue with the machine heads personally. I guess you could upgrade to more expensive ones, but the stock ones work fine for me.

If you change out the tuners, be careful getting the press-in bushings out. I installed open back 18:1 Grovers on mine, which was a nice upgrade, but the old bushings were hard to get out. I chipped the finish slightly on the veneer of the headstock. I was able to repair it well enough so it isn’t noticeable from a few feet away, but if you’re really fussy about the cosmetics of your instrument, be forewarned.

As for any differences you can contact St. Louis Music Service for more info.

I'm suggesting the difference in price may be just cosmetic or possibly the type of bridge pins or items like that. As an example I own the Alvarez AD710, which was the cheaper version of the mainstream AD70.

Regarding the MD60EBG vs the MD610EBG (the "E" refers to the pickup being included), I emailed Alvarez and here is what they said:

"The woods are the same it is just a different set of tuning machines for the 610.
