Default % tension drop by detuning 1 semitone? 2?

Assuming a guitar is in standard tuning.

What is the # reduction in tension if one reduces the tension by 1 semitone? 2 semitones? For example tune the E to D sharp or D.

Thanks in advance for any help.

About 11% and 21% respectively, give or take. Gauge etc. doen’t make much difference...

Here is everything you could ever need to know from the people who've been doing for a very long time:

Why are you asking? What are you trying to accomplish?

Let us know and we can probably offer much better thoughts and counsel.

Nice to have these, and the D'Addario above, all in one thread.

I just had a little fun plugging in different string values, scales, metal types, and seeing the results. Just out of curiosity - No goals in mind - but i could easily spend a lot more time doing so - a fun little exercise.

thanks to both of you for the links -
J

Simple. Every guitar has a range of tension that works best. So instead of swapping different gauge strings to test tensions, I figure I'll start by detuning to see if it changes the tone drastically. Some guitars do. Some don't. And if I know the percentages, I get a sense of what tension I may be looking for in a new set to try.
