Question Pickup endpin jack replacement

So my awesome new Gibson 50s LG-2 came with a *&#)(**&$# UST pickup, why do the companies insist on putting pickups in everything. I digress, so my plan is to pull all that mess out. What do y’all reccomend use to replace the endpin jack with?

Yes i know i can pull the wire out from under the saddle and tuck it in a wire tie, but i want it all gone.

I’ve done this on several guitars. StewMac sells an expanding plug/end pin that works very well. It’s also reversible if you ever decide to reinstall the original pickup. If I sell the guitar I offer to leave the plug and include the pickup or reinstall the pickup before shipping.

Don’t forget you’ll need to fit a new saddle or shim the original to get the saddle height correct. Short term I glue on an ebony shim from Bob Colosi and sand it to the corrected height. If I decide to reinstall the pickup it’s just a matter of sanding the shim down to the original saddle and the action height is back where it started. Long term I replace the factory saddle with a Colosi bone saddle.

Thanks, that's my plan to put it back in should I ever sell.

I'll probably just order a whole new saddle and bridge pins from Bob before I remove everything anyway.

While you’re ordering those from Bob, put one of his endpin-plugs on your order too. Job done, completely!

I had a UST in my Martin D-35 and removed it.
My solution was to cut the wire at the end pin connection and leave the end pin in the guitar.
This way there was no wires hanging inside the guitar.

A few years later, I soldered the wire back to the end pin and re-installed the pickup.
That lasted about a year and the pickup came back out.
Once again the end pin stayed in the guitar.

Moving forward, I now have a K & K pickup in the D-35.
The new pickup came with an end pin which replaced the old one.

I've used Bob's endpin plugs a few times, as I also have no use for a pickup in an acoustic. They do the job admirably.
