Nice! I like the views of the insides of the guitar- I appreciate craftsmanship, and not just in sound.

Default One year on!

It's been just over a year since my 00 by Ralph was completed and I haven't picked up my Sobell in that time (ok, maybe a few times, it is, after all, an awesome beast). The 00 has been played a lot, at least a few hours a day.

Tonally it is becoming fuller with an incredible depth to both the bass and trebles with a shimmery quality.

I have played all my repertoire on it, classical as well as fingerstyle.

Here's a piece I recorded recently which only represents about 5% of the experience and joy of playing it.

Cheers
Jonny

What a pretty guitar and what a gorgeous sounding instrument, too! Beautifully played in your hands, I might add!

Congratulations!

What a beautiful piece of music and amazing execution! Question (from a Sobell nut): For such a delicate piece, have you played it on the Sobell? I suspect it might sound quite brash, but could be sooo powerful. Lovely! Tim

Congratulations on owning such a fine instrument and having the chops to do it justice.

Lovely. Thank you for sharing.

It is only recently that my ear has developed to grasp the beauty of smaller guitar bodies. Appreciate your playing and the instrument.

Hi Jonny

I would like to thank you for posting these clips. Your playing is outstanding and the sound of your guitar is wonderful.

I remember tentatively contacting Ralph about 30 years ago over the telephone having seen and heard some of his guitars in the hands of some local blues musicians called The Hokum Hotshots. In my naivety, at the time, I couldn’t make my mind up about which model I wanted and couldn’t commit to being on his waiting list, deciding to wait a couple of years before speaking to him again. Of course I never did, and since then he has become very difficult to contact.

It’s great to hear that he is still making guitars, and great to see that professional players such as yourself and the other guys mentioned continue to champion his work.

Have many happy years playing this guitar, it looks and sounds beautiful.

Slim

Good luck with that!
Ralph told me he was "getting a website together" at least 15 years ago. I'm still waiting.

One of "those builders" who thankfully just doesn't need to advertise. All of his work is via word-of-mouth, with a lot of return customers with multiple guitars. I've played this guitar and it's really lovely, and, like Jonny says, improving al the time.

Seriously great sound here, given it's YouTube and a "cheap" Apogee USB mic - proof that it's 90% player perhaps?

Cheers,
Steve

Thanks for watching; lots of GAS is in the anticipation, but this guitar has continued to reward over the past year.

Thanks. He's still contactable and very much still producing phenomenal instruments, they come up used occasionally.

Thanks Honkycat - for the filming to look polished takes a while, as does the playing!

Cheers Steve - no effects at all on this recording! So it must be my playing, lol.
