Default A Day at the guitar store (x3)

I played a LOT of guitars yesterday in several different stores.
Martin 000-15M
Martin D-15M
Martin D-18 (I think one was old and one was 2012 they sounded different)
Taylor GA3
Gibson J-45
Martin D-35
For the most part I had a few right there with me and played them back to back to back.

For some reason to both my girlfriend and I, the 000-15M was about the "fullest" sounding of them all.
It sounded much fuller than the D-15M
The D-35 was VERY nice and the J-45 is something I really like as well.
I want to like a D-18 but wasn't totally sold on it. Although one did sound better, I think it must have been the 2012 version.

What I don't understand is how the little 000-15M can sound so deep/full when it is the smaller body etc. It seemed to vibrate more in almost every case, I played three in three stores. It seemed to just resonate, maybe its the mids?

I had a D-1GT but for me spending that much money on a guitar and it having the richlite was a hard pill to swallow. So I am going to spend a little more and make sure I get all wood, the question now is what as I am more confused than when I left...

Aaron, is there a 000-15M in your future? Was it a specific 000-15M or did you play a few of them?

I played three in three stores and they all sounded good and pratically the same.
I do want to play some bluegrass with others but the 000-15m probably wouldnt be very suited for that. Also its not like bluegrass is all i play.

Never ask why. You simply buy the one that works best for you.

If it spoke to you take it home. 000-15's are great guitars...

I recently had a guitar built based on an AJ. I wanted it BIG...you know, so it would sound BIG...and without a doubt, it does.
I had the same builder make me a triple O and I'm finding the same ting with this OOO. It sounds HUGE!
The descriptives you gave ring (no pun intended) true here too.
Crazy right?

Maybe it's just the OOO size/style? Mine is a 12fret. Were any of the ones you played?

I like this kind of post...I was poking around at a nice dealer last week and found the same thing you did. I really liked the 000-15M. More than most of the more expensive models. I also liked the Taylor DN3. Different sound though.
Good Luck....if you lay awake thinking about it, it's for you.

I wish i could have tried a DN3.
At these prices I could get one of each

There is something about the 000/OM-15 that defies logic in some ways. It's at the lower end of my collection of guitars from a price standpoint but is up near the top in satisfaction in terms of playability and tone. I believe it (the 15 series) is the best bang for the buck from Martin Guitars hands down. I'm sure those here who own one will attest. Every time I pick mine up I'm amazed?

I came a little late to the party only starting to play nearly three years ago. My instructor has forty years as a working musician and cant keep away from my 000-15m. Thinks it has the best shape and tone of most guitars he has played. Ill take that as a complement from a man of his experience.

I've got an 000-15SM, the 12 fret slothead version and it sounds very full and rich too. It seems as loud as my dreads.........perhaps not quite as strong on the lows but a real midrange punch and better overall balance. It's an absolute joy to play. I had considered getting this model for several years and played around with a couple of cheaper "imitations" for awhile but am so glad I finally got the real deal.

I agree that the 15 series Martins are a great value for the quality, tone, and playability they deliver. I've also come to really like the plain appointments and richness of that satin finished mahoghany
