Default The one guitar that you own that you would never sell.

My "How many guitars do you own" thread has made me realize that I do not own too many guitars. At sixteen and counting I thought I had a large collection. Turns out I do not.
That revelation got me to thinking, if for whatever reason you had to sell all but one of the guitars in your collection which one would you keep?
For me it would be my 1973 Martin D-35. I am the original owner, having purchased it with "veterans bonus" money my state gave me. It is the first acoustic guitar I played on stage with. It is the guitar that I played for my daughter when she was a baby, it never failed to calm her when she was upset. It is the guitar that I've played at countless gigs, campground fires, parties and family gatherings. It is the guitar that I still play to this day.
So which acoustic guitar that you own is the one you would never part with?

Well Had you asked me this a year ago I would have said my 2014 J-200 Ultimate.

Today, my answer would be my 000-28e Modern Deluxe.

Though it’s not my favorite per se, it’s definitely aging very well into an excellent guitar: My Santa Cruz OM Grand short scale. I ordered this to commemorate the birth and adoption of my son. The tree of life peg head inlays as well as the 12th fret heart / triangle (the symbol for adoption) are special to him and the event of his birth and this will be passed down to him when he gets older whether he wants it or not!

Just one??? No, I can't decide. Sigh.

I suppose if my house was on fire and I could only rescue one guitar, it would probably have to be my custom-made Stephen Holst.

2004 Tacoma "Forum Guitar" I was gifted #1 of 10 so it will be with me as long as I am alive. We were fortunate to get them made as it was right before Fender took over.

It's taken me quite awhile to arrive at the three acoustics I currently own (a Waterloo WL12, a Gibson LG2, and a Mule Resophonic tricone).

I'll never part with any of them, and I hope to never buy another.

My '76 Guild D-35. It sounds like me, it looks like me, it lives like me.

The one guitar which I would never sell is not the pettiest, or the best sounding or even the easiest to play, but it was commissioned for me by my wife in 1998 for my 50th birthday.

Back then it was still the early days of searching online, and I had recently (1996) realised that I preferred 12 fret designs, but they were very difficult to find.

When she asked me what I'd like for my "special" birthday, I was joking when I said a 12 fret 00 in rosewood. She took it seriously and we contacted a local luthier. When we collected it on my birthday, she wrote out a cheque (yes we still used cheques back then) and as I drive home she admitted that she had completely drained her savings account for it.

..... and that's why I could never sell it.

2009 Breedlove DR Deluxe, signed by Jason Bowerman, designed by Jason and Preston Thompson. When I play it at bluegrass jams it’s my favorite tone I hear in a mix of wonderful instruments and players around me. If I ever receive an unexpected financial windfall it might be bumped by a Preston Thompson or an actual prewar Martin. Otherwise, it’s as close as I’ll ever get to the best.

My Rainsong WS-1000 is the one that I'd grab. For a long time I would have said my Emerald X20, but I'm back on the Rainsong bandwagon again -- especially since they just went out of business and it cannot be replaced (except used). Carbon fiber means durability and no humidity or temperature worries. Plus I really like the tone and playability and have since 2001.

Most of the wooden guitars have already been sold, and the all-koa Taylor 424 would have to take its chances in the event of a tragedy. But even if I someday cannot play any longer the Rainsong will be the last to go.

I have never sold a guitar in my life. Right now I have 4 at home and have already passed 9 others on to my 2 sons. They will get the rest when I'm gone.

Mine would be my dad's old '59 J-45 that you've all seen me harp on for years and years. When he passed in '79 it came to me and I couldn't even play a chord at the time, but we went through a lot of life and learning together over the years. This pic is from a few years ago playing a songwriter showcase at the Commodore Grill in downtown Nashville, I had just gotten finished playing my song "Scars" that I wrote about that guitar and Dad and the realization that I had taken that guitar somewhere Dad had only dreamed of had just washed over me. Honestly it was all I could do to hold it together at the moment my wife took that pic.
