Maybe I haven't read thoroughly, but did anybody mention JOAN BAEZ?

Ok...I'm gonna go there.
Taylor Swift - Not my number one, but she might be someday...a lot of road in front of that girl. Shannon Worrell - 'Eleanor' is one of my favorites. Emmylou Harris

I'd like to second (or, is it third or fourth) Emmylou Harris. I believe that woman could make me run away from home.
And, after all these years, I'm still head over heels in love with Melanie Safka.

Quote:
She wrote relatively few compared to her covers of Dylan and folk stuff. But I love her too. I copied her style when I was starting.

Memphis Minnie
She penned "When The Levee Breaks" (with her husband Kansas Joe) and beat Big Bill Broonzy in a cutting contest. That is one heck of a resume. Also: Ellen McIlwaine - possibly the best lady slide player ever. I first heard of her with her band Fear Itself. She played the Cafe Au Go Go with Hendrix and opened for guys like Muddy Waters. Lucinda Williams Hazel Dickens and Alice Gerrard Mary McCaslin Lynn Ungar (not real prolific these days but her "There's Something I've Been Meaning to Tell You" remains one of my favorite songs of all time). And lets not forget Sandy Denny.
