Interesting. But this is for “recovery” not tracking, right? It even requires a post-theft police report. Significantly different than the tags.

I saw on the Apple site that you need an iPhone 11 or higher to use one. That leaves me out as I still have a 7 with no plans to upgrade. Steve Jobs was maybe the most brilliant salesman ever getting people to "re-buy" the same device over and over agin just because a new one came out? But that's another discussion...

I have an iPhone 7 and am looking at my AirTag's location as I type this.

Maybe the issue is that Apple treats the AirTag differently from the other Apple Devices in "Find My." It has to be added as a "New Item" but once you do that, it tracks it the same as it does my other Apple gadgets . . .

You'd be fine for general tracking. What doesn't work on earlier phones is precision tracking which is the ability to lead you to the exact location of the airtag in a room.

Smile Got one

I just got an air tag and synced to my iPad. It was a bit of a hassle, but Apple Support helped a lot.

Yesterday I shipped a nice axe. It showed up in the description on the iPad as already across the country, but the map keeps showing MY iPad location. Bear in mind I am a Digi-Dolt. Hahahaha

Still, way better than the normal tracking!

Thanks Andy, and gang, for the info

Cheers

Paul

I’ve been using AirTags now for a little while. I love having them. If I sell a guitar i put an AirTag in a padded envelope with a prepaid label and the receiver can just drop it off. The tracking is excellent and I set them up on my iPhone in less time than it took to open the box. I’m watching one go to Texas right now. My friend currently has a guitar lost in the ups system and it just reinforces my reason for using them.
