He mentioned mid 2010. So about slightly less than 2 years. Wow, I didn't have to wait too long for my doerr though!!!

Great choice and congrats too, Matthew.
It may not be the last doerr for you too!!!

Very true.... I am debating a cedar/braz build as well... Thought I would at least think about it for a few days though!

I own a used Doerr which i was blessed with, mint at a very good price - swiss spruce with master malaysian blackwood back and sides, florentine cut, top abalone purfling, wood/abalone rosette in addition to the standard features. picked out by a good friend (original owner) and shipped to Tom for building..i can't help but play it everyday!

Tom's attention to detail is amazing and impeccable. i must say that for the items he puts in his basic guitar (eg. mitered purflings, 5 piece neck, end graft, backplates etc) you are getting alot of guitar for the money.

aesthetically, the body shape, cutaway, headstock and bridge are visually pleasing.

Tonewise it has great clarity and is articulate. even for a small body, the legacy select has a rather deep lower bout - i'm guessing that adds a little to volume. the guitar is also built rather lightly.

i was impressed with the guitar when i first played it and i've been getting compliments from people for its tone and looks. i've played with and for - most recently at a churchmate's wedding.

when you pick up one of Tom's guitars and examine it, you can't help but feel that he is someone who takes alot of pride in his work.

i hope to be able to afford another someday! i heard he's getting better at his craft after attending the somogyi course.

you won't be disappointed.

Wow guys, congrats on the new Doerr guitars comming your way.... I have two myself being built and one Indian Cedar form 2006. I was impressed with his work from a few years ago and his current work is even better..... Can't wait to hear how the one at Guitargal is and hang in there till 2010, it will be well worth it... Best guitar being built for the money, his current work really does have all the tone and craftmanship of guitars twice the price...

This thread is dangerous..... It's definitely making me think about placing an order, but that 2 year wait is a killer.

To those who own world class guitars from other luthiers and also own a Doerr, how does it stack up? Say... to an Olson for example?

I was at the Heldsberg Show and watched Don Alder jam for like 40min and kept saying how much he digs Tom's guitars, I know Don has played the best of the best. I personally own and have owned mulitable hand builds from well known luthiers and feel he is on the same page, especially his current work and the guitars to come in the future.... I've played Olson and Ryan's that I thought my Doerr from early 2006 was better... I personally would rather have a Doerr with the works, custom woods and many upgrades, than a standard base guitar for more money from some builders... I'm not going to make the statement that Doerr is better than Olson or Jeff Traugott, but I will say that great guitars are great guitars and you do not have to pay $$,$$$$ for one.
