Wow! Twelve pages and still going strong. It is exciting to think that Peavy could have the guitars in stores so soon. It is interesting reading all the debate about the guitars. I for one think the road trips were great ideas. Of course the guitar would have to be a quality one or otherwise reviews might hurt. I do believe that overall CA has had great reviews on there guitars, both from owners and former owners. I have had two myself. I had a Bluegrass Performer with the 1 11/16 neck. These were made in the original factory. It was a great guitar, the only changes I wanted were a little wider neck and fret makers. I ended up selling it to purchase an OX Raw. Right now my guitar desires are set though I do get the urge to try out a Cargo, since hearing all the raves.
I do believe that for the average user a CA did not require a setup, and are relaively mainenance free. There are some however who do like to have everything just so.. in there case they may want to get things perfect for them.

Define "average user", and what their specs or preferences might be.

That may in fact define the average user in terms of use (and it may not), but it does not define their "specs" which will have the guitar comfortable in their hands...

Just want to chime in regarding my previous post in this thread. It was written while I was sipping Margaritas on my boat and I may have been more candid than I intended. I would modify it but it has been copied enough times that it would serve no propose.
Let me just say that I meant no disrespect to Mike, and I certainly did not mean to give the impression that his road trips are a bad idea. It simply wasn't good for CA. I think Mike has some great ideas, and an honest love for guitars. I dare say his love for the guitars might actually be stronger than his love of profit which is a rare thing these days. I wish him, his business, and the Carbon Forum all the best. As for the two Jay's and the mysterious deleted post, Larry sent me a copy and it was pretty harsh. Not something this forum would have deleted I think but I could see why Mike did. |

Well Larry to me the average user is one who can not quote proper set up specs. Also they have probably have never used the words correct neck angle in a sentence before. In most cases they have not recorded any CDs or played for more than 2 other people, not including there cat who adores them.

So you're implying that an average user would not know if a guitar was hard or easy to play...or am I reading into your post something that isn't there...?

I am saying I believe the average user, tends to accept the factory setup as generally ok and on spot. I never even thought of checking out or having my guitar set up by a professional prior to coming to this forum. I also belive the average guitar player does not spend time on forums as well but thats another post.

I like that name "laughingskunk". It is apparently applicable to me, especially as I get older:
Me: ...laughing... My wife: You think that's funny?!? Go open the window before we both pass out! Don't know how you arrived at the name, but we get a kick out of it. Tony |

Since CA's demise early this year, the GXi is not available new, unless some dealer happens to still have one. Those interested can only hope that Peavey offers them among the CA offerings later this fall (as is specualted) and that they remain built to original spec (or better). I own a GXi. They are not everybody's cup of tea, but I love mine. It's great and totally unique.

Perhaps so...but if they're not aware that this might require attention, does their oblivion remove the possibility that the set-up is bad? Are you advocating that most (51%, 75%, 95%?) factory set-ups are indeed "spot on"? Define "spot-on" in regards to what an individual player might require for set-up.
