Default 2003 Taylor 414CE-L2 limited edition !

Hey brothers and sisters
I am few steps away from buying 2003 Taylor 414CE-L2 limited edition !
I love sound of 814ce so I am buying poor man's 814
I was hoping if I could get any insights on 2003 model and if possible good price for this model through pm because I think price I am asked for is bit high...
anyways thanks in advance as always !
Hope your guitar journey go famously !

In 2003 you could custom order a 414 with rosewood (gloss) and that was the case with my guitar even though I just bought it in the last year. I love the sound of mine and as I play, it is opening up and sounding better. The fact that the guitar you're looking at is a 2003 means that the top will probably have a nice golden color and the wood is aged and may sound better than new.

Trouble is asking price is frequently very high complared to regular 414 so keep in mind the price of a used 814 as you might find one for a few hundred more. I got lucky on mine (pricewise) but it just depends on the price and how much you like it. You will enjoy the sound. I have an 814 also and the 414 is no slouch beside it. I think it sounds very much like the 814.

There was also a limited run of rosewood 414's in 2003 that were satin and came with the ES. They were dealer limiteds and I think they were built 2 per dealer to promote the launch of the ES. Mine was purchased from HB Woodsongs in Boulder, Colorado. I upgraded to the 07 ES system in Feb of 07.

They also had a limited run of 300's with the ES back in 03 as well. For the same reason.

Rosewood is a nice upgrade but not excessively rare for 414's. Over the past 8 years since 2003 there have been several times where rosewood was part of the limited series offerings. There are more out there than one might think but then again, those of us who have them tend to keep them because they are the poor man's 814ce.

I have a 2003 414-rce (EIR/Sikta). It's exactly what was described, beautiful golden top and really a wonderful sounding guitar. Has been my main guitar for 5 years now and it would take a heck of a lot to get me to part with it

If you still want some help on pricing you can PM me and I'll let you know what I paid back in 2005.
