Default relative or absolute humidity

I have 2 hygrometers.

Relative hygrometer is indicating 35% RH

Absolute is indicating 60%.

What is the real situation. Both have be calibrated and both are new.

Relative humidity is a measure of the amount of water vapour in a sample of air compared to the maximum amount of water vapour it can hold at that temperature. It is expressed as a percentage.

Absolute humidity is the mass of water vapour per volume of air. It is not expressed as a percentage.

I don’t know what the second gauge is measuring, but it is not absolute humidity, if it’s units are percentage.

Relative humidity is the amount of water in the air relative to the maximum amount of water that air at that temperature could hold, expressed as a percentage. So the air is holding 35% of the maximum amount of water that air at that temperature could hold.

Absolute humidity is a measurement of the actual amount of water in the air, usually expressed as grams (sometimes kg) per cubic meter. So if you have an absolute humidity of 60, it probably means 60 grams of water per cubic meter of air. (As Charles just wrote, it should not be expressed as a percentage.)

[EDIT: Actually, 60 grams of water per cubic meter is impossibly high, so something is off there.]
