Default Santa Cruz 1929 Modified V Neck Profile?

Can any tell me how severe the modified V is on the Santa Cruz 1929 00 model? It would be great if you could compare it to almost any modified V neck on the various Martin’s. I’ve played most of them.

Thanks.

I believe earlier in the original production of the 29' series, like in 08' or 09', the neck was a true old school V shape, and has since softened quite a bit. I can't compare it to any Martins but I think in more recent years the 29' series now feels more like the rest of the Santa Cruz line's "modified V's" which I, perhaps not surprisingly, find very comfortable. More round than V, but still a subtle little something to hang the thumb on.

Thanks Eric. This one’s only a few years old. I just checked out your YouTube channel. Very nice. Thanks.

The original 1929 V neck profile was pronounced, cutting away more of the shoulders, similar to V neck profiles from 100 years ago. Beginning in 2010 (plus or minus) SCGC redesigned that neck profile to have a bit more shoulder and a bit less depth at the V point, calling it a modified V profile. It is now a quite comfortable and unobtrusive neck profile, at least for me. Many other modern boutique builders use a similar modified V when the build calls for a V profile.

The Santa Cruz modified v neck carve is the only v shape that I find comfortable to play. I a have a very soft v on my Kramer Prairie Grass and it is very comfortable as well. The 1929 is a wonderful guitar.
Best,
Jayne

SCGC's V is my favorite neck shape. Although my 000 is from '96, so thing might be a bit different now. Mine has pretty much V, but the shoulders are rounded. It works for me! I also have an 100 year old guitar, whose V is more severe. I like that one too. I guess V necks work for me.

Hey Jay, I also have a Kramer! A Quartet, fabulous guitar. It's neck is nearly round, with just a hint of V that one wouldn't notice unless paying careful attention. Which I guess people like us do. Cheers!

I've had a number of them and the SC V neck is much smaller of a V then the Martin CEO-7 V neck. I'd say it's a small V. Not as pronounced.

Thanks for those who helped me decide to go ahead and buy my first Santa Cruz. As it’s a 2017 the modified V is very mild. Actually a quick favorite neck of many guitars. So far I’m loving what I’m hearing. I’m still a couple of weeks out from being able to sing due to surgery.
