How Often Do You Play Guitar?
I'm sure there's been threads on this, I did a quick search and didn't see anything recent, I'd like to do a poll. I was going to ask how much you play daily but figured weekly might average things out better.
I was wondering as I read a post this morning of someone mentioning they play 6 hours I day, I couldn't believe it, I'm lucky to play an hour a week but that's the crazy time of life I'm in these days; renos, 2 jobs, babies sleeping, you know how it goes. For me, 1-2 hours a week at most but many weeks I'm lucky to get 1/2 hr. I went pretty arbitrary on the time options, just use your best guess. Edit* I realize I missed the 1/2 -1 hr option, oh well, just choose the next closest. |

Every day. I just wish I sounded like it.

I would guess those who play more than six hours a day are either high school students or retirees.

I practice every day. A minimum of 20-30 minutes, sometimes for 60-90 minutes. Depends on the day, my energy, etc.
I jam 1-3 times a week for 1-3 hours each time. I haven’t always made so much time for music…but it is good that I am doing so now. It makes me happy, and I am playing better than I ever have. |

I play everyday but only 15 minutes to 30 minutes a session. I have left hand issues causing pain and stiffness. But some times I will do two or three of those sessions a day.

I'm playing more than I ever have in my life right now. About 2-3 hours per day. It's not necessarily quality practice, but I have slowly increased the quality and variation so that I'm learning different content and doing scales, intervals, etc. as well as songs. I definitely think it's actually better to stop and take a break or just play a simple tune, instead of attacking complicated advanced level stuff all the time. It's all fun either way.

I don't really have a set amount of time as it depends on what else is going on in life. These days it can range from an hour on the low end up to 20-ish on the high end. I probably average somewhere in the middle of that.

I’m retired…so every day I have 1 1/2 hours after breakfast set aside to play my guitars. That’s right about 10 hours a week. Plenty for me since I don’t gig. My only goal is to get better and have fun doing it.

I try to do an hour a day--a half hour early morning that's actual "practice" (wakes up my brain) and a half hour in the afternoon/evening/night that's just spent playing tunes.
But that doesn't always happen. Life gets busy. I try to make up for it during the Summer, when I'm not working...I can DEFINITELY hear it in my playing if I go a few days without. |

I probably average an hour a day. More than half of it is not practice though. I do a lot of just playing. But I pick up my guitar most every afternoon late, before supper. It is how I wind down from the day.

Nix the retirees. We don't have hands that can take it, at least among folks I know. Two to three hours per day in multiple 45 minute sessions, 60/40 between mandolin and guitar.

2-3 hrs. 5-6 days a week.
I just play a different guitar every time i play. I don't really practice I just try to learn new tunings, new tunes or adapt old stuff to my bad habit style..

Half hour per weekday, 1-2 hours on weekends
Most weekdays I get a least a half hour in after work.
Now that I'm working from home every day, I take my Taylor off the wall hanger I installed in my home office to noodle around and practice scales during the daytime as a needed break. On the weekends, I spend more time with my Comins electric, learning/practicing barre chords, scale shapes, and reading. This translates better to the acoustic later, after I have learned new barres. Replacing the medium strings with lights has helped a real lot. I feel like I get spoiled on the weekends, cause the flatwound 11s on the electric are so easy to play.
