Fantastic solo, jomaynor... thanks for posting! I love it. I can listen to that tune all day.

Default The Whoooo!

For me, The Who are the highlight. Summertime Blues, the split-screens, the energy! Martin Scorsese was one of the editors of the movie, and he went on to make some other concert films, like The Band's Last Waltz and The Stones' Shine a Light.

And Goodfellas, Casino, The Departed…

Well last night I was not able to stay awake to finish watching the movie.

When I first saw the part of the concert movie that had Richie Havens, I wasn't impressed. But then in 1970? 1971? while I was still in High School I went to a Havens concert at the University of Colorado in Boulder, and, in the vernacular of the day, he "blew my mind". Wow, what a show, and what a rapport with the huge audience! He told stories, and of course with his music he kept us all engaged. In Boulder he didn't have has band but was solo, and I still remember the feelings.

Of course, after that, I viewed his Woodstock footage differently,

Guild kept Richie amply supplied with new D-40's. At some point, they added a pickguard to the bass side. He went through them fast!

Woodstock was a showcase for live talent like few others.

From a guitar player's point of view, Mr. Havens was a one-chord-wonder. As an entertainer he had the presence others can't match.

My one-off interest in RH:

I think Guild made one F-30 size slotted-headstock steel string Richie Havens guitar as a prototype for a new model. (??) It would remind you of a MK nylon string from a distance. Anyone familiar with this guitar?

I still remember the first time I saw the RH clip in the theater. Blew me away. Amazing artist, really unique voice.

I'm not going to pick favorites from the movie or recordings (and I wasn't at the concert, I heard a few others showed up)--too many to mention.

But no one's mentioned Sly and the Family Stone, Jefferson Airplane, or some guy named Mandrax or Henderson or something--oh yeah, that's right--Jimmie Hendrax, I think that was the guy.

And Richie Havens was one of the greatest live acoustic guitar acts that ever trod a stage IMHO. I could see why someone wouldn't like him that much, but I'm not that someone.

Default Woodstock Performers

I was one of the lucky ones to have attended Woodstock in Aug 69' before going off to college and engineering. My favorite performers were Alvin Lee and "Ten Years after", Crosby Stills and Nash, Santana, Jefferson Airplane and Grace Slick, and Hendrix of course...What a life long memory that still is so vivid in my mind with all the spectacle, people, surroundings and happenings.
