I did not own a guitar that sounded better with 80/20 strings until I bought my Gibson SJ-200 last year.

Very first string change was to John Pearse 80/20's and they were excellent ... however, D'Addario Nickel Bronze are also mighty nice on there too.

I have some Curt Mangan 80/20 round-cores to try next when these NB's finally wear out!

Hands down the Gibson “Masterbuilts” made by GHS. They are no longer available, but the Bright Bronze GHS makes are close. I still have a dozen sets left and I wouldn’t part with them for three times what they cost.
After that, Curt Mangans are good.

Are round core 80/20 strings a little warmer?

My favorites are the John Pearse 80/20’s.

Elixir Phosphor Bronze Nanoweb 13/53 is my first choice.

I'm not particular to any brand provided the strings are not coated and the diameters are what I regularly use. For the record - I'm one of the few that never liked phosphor/bronze because they always sound too brash & ugly to me until they have some wear on them.

Another vote for EB Earthwood at least on my Larrivee. I’ve only tried a couple of others but the EB’s have won out for now.

I'm currently using a set of Martin MA140 80/20's on a Gibson J-15. Not bad. A little brighter than the EB Earthwood 80/20's I had on there before. I'll probably go back to the Earthwoods the next change.

D'Addario EJ-11, previously was a fan of Martin M140 (now reintroduced as The Originals).
New Martin MA140 are excellent strings, but I prefer more 'traditional' tone whatever that would mean.
EJ-11 deliver.
Did not try Ernie Ball 80/20 yet.

I like phosphor bronze better, but in one of my guitars I use the 80/20 EB Earthwood

Dogal Nightclub V25 are my favorite 80/20 Bronze strings
Low tension, round core, flat wound.
Unlike any flat wound acoustic strings you may have tried.
These strings are long lasting, sound superb, and there's never any string squeak.

Their so-called "soft brass"? Is that just branding, or is there anything special to them that warrants this label?

Well they are also French, so might just be a translation thing.

I've been to think of a French term that might get translated like that, and failed. Their website isn't helpfull either here, but I wonder if maybe they mean 85/15. Or maybe they have some silk underneath the wrapping?
