I'm glad Martin has started using "streaked" ebony for some of their fretboards a la Taylor. That one looks great!

Default NGD Martin OOO-18 with unique fretboard

I also have a variegated ebony neck on a Martin. I love it — and yours. It makes a statement that the builder is saving the rainforests, rather rejecting ebony that’s not jet black.

Its unique and why not.
However, I also think they could stain it, if they wanted to give a more classic look to the iconic model. Inlays make it look like its a special edition of some kind?'

Martin has used streaky ebony for hundreds of years. They normally just dye them for a more uniform color. Unlike Larrivee or Taylor.

This is my understanding as well, that most ebony is just dyed.

Congrats on the unique 000-18! I've never seen a streaked fretboard that looks just like that, with a single streak going down the middle of the fretboard. I remember when Taylor started using streaked ebony a few years ago and it took me a couple months to like them but now I think they can look great.

How does it sound and play?
