Default gs mini vs silvercreek

Anyone played both? Looking for something portable. Something I can play in group settings. Something that can be heard in the living room, when people are singing. Maybe also in a band setting as well.

You don't mention which Silvercreek but I would go with the GS Mini regardless.

Comparing the two is a bit like apples and oranges. I love my Silver Creek T-170. But for the portability factor, I'd take the GS Mini.

I just went through the same experience.

I chose to go with the Silver Creek soley because of the nut width. If the GS Mini had a 1.75 I would have been all over it.

Although I will say I am thouroughly impressed by the Silver Creek. Is it a Taylor, Martin, etc......? Not at all. But for around 150 new? Solid Wood?

Yes Sir!

I'd take the GS Mini. It's incredible how much volume and how nice of a sound those little things have!

I found my dearly departed Silver Creek T-160 & T-170 to be incredibly comfortable guitars, but the GS Mini's neck just seemed too small....

I own a GS Mini and a Silver Creek T-170. I do prefer the neck on the Silver Creek since the Mini is a bit cramped (the worst part of the GSM in my opinion). The T-170's 1.75" nut is super comfortable and the neck profile is great. I prefer the tone of the GS Mini. The Silver Creek is a bit boxy and undefined. I do a lot of fingerstyle and blues on it, but for strumming, I find it unappealing.

Each guitar has a role in my herd, so I enjoy each one for what it is. Both are great little guitars.

I have the SC T170. I like it a lot, but if you are able to go the extra $300, I'd get the GSMini. I've played one (GSmini), love the sound and portability. Plus - it is a Taylor - it will always be worth something.

I had a perfectly set up silvercreek. I loved everything about the guitar except its tone. It sounded horrible. I really couldnt even sing along with it, that bad. It wasnt muddy, just like a tin box. I would never recomend one of those. I would definately without reserve recommend a Seagull mini jumbo QI or an Entourage without electronics. I'm considering trading my BBT towards the Seagull mini jumbo. I've actually heard really good things about the QI as well.

I have a GS mini. One of the first ones from last year. I maybe be selling it as I just don't play it much. Its nice, but right now I have plenty of guits and I can't affort to have several sitting around unplayed. I loved my T-160 as it had a one piece neck and a nice top which several thought was engleman spruce. I sold it to a buddy of mine because he didn't have an acoustic at the time and I didn't need it. I like the nut width. I put a tonerite on mine for 2 weeks and it sounded great after that.

Actually one of the best sounding small bodied guitars I have owned is the Art & Lutherie Ami with solid cedar top and sun burst 12 fret and a wider nut. With gig bag its around $329. Its a real guitar. I will own another some day.

Since tone is the primary importance with a guitar - this one was not good. GS Mini every time.

I used to have a T-160 and liked it a lot. I have played the GS mini and like it better. The drawback, as others have noted, is the narrower nut-width.

Having said that, I would like to mention that I bought a Flinthill FHG-017 (a repackaged Recording King RO-17, which might be comparable to a T170).....anyhow, the Flinthill that I snapped up is much nicer in tone and playability than the T-160 I had, even with laminated back and sides. If you get a chance to play either the RK version or the Flinthill, which I think is discontinued, you might want to consider that. I played guitars costing twice or more the amount of the Flinthill and was prepared to pay more money, but walked off with it because it sounded and played better.

Interesting that there is another thread complaining that Taylor doesn't have enough guitars with 1 11/16" necks. Guess you can't please us all.

As for the the original question, I personally have never played a Silvercreek that I liked but I do agree they are an excelent value. The GS Mini is not exactly cheap but I think they are fantastic so put me in the GS Mini column.
