Default Tuning UP....

I've been working in open tunings lately and I've gotten curious about up- tuning. I want to tune my guitar to F#AC#G#BE . . . . do you think that's a little too much?

The F#, C#, and G# make me nervous. Why not tune the other strings down and use a capo?

Why not just change the low E string to a lighter gauge?

That seems to be the only one being really pushed....errr, pulled....by the tuning

That would be a great solution if I didnt need the fretboard real estate..

To maintain the same string tension as a light set, here are the gauges you'd want:

E 23# PL == 0.0119"
B, 23# PL == 0.0159"
G,# 30# PB == 0.0225"
C,# 30# PB == 0.0335"
A,, 30# PB == 0.042"
F,,# 26# PB == 0.0469"

This is a great resource:
