Default Taylor GS Mini Roswood or 114e?

i was wondering if i could get some input on a tough choice... I am thinking about getting either a Taylor gs mini rosewood with electronics...or a 114e. Both are $600. I am leaning towards a mini but....a full size for the same price....help!!!

Simple question: Do you want a full size guitar or not? Both are a good choice, it just comes down to what size guitar you want, I would think.

Never played the Mini, but it gets enthusiastic recommendations every time it's mentioned.
The 114 is also an really good guitar in it's price range. If I was going to use the instrument for performance, jamming with others, etc., Id go with the 114. No matter how good the mini is, I can't see it holding it's own volume wise in a jam with dreads or other full sized guitars. The 114 will do that easily. Also, if this is a first guitar or only guitar I'd recommend going with the full sized instrument.
If you just want a guitar to play at home alone, I'd go with the mini.
MHO.

Depends if it's your only guitar. If I was to have only one guitar it would be the 114. Handles most playing styles; not so much for the GS mini.

I'm not really a fan of the 100 level Taylors.

Haven't played a GS Mini, but people seem to really like them.

I would take a long look at an Eastman GA-sized guitar before I bought the Taylor 114. The Eastman GA's strike me as very Taylor-y (I think they're explicitly copying the design of the x14s, but I could be wrong) and so you might like it if you want the 114, but at that price range I think the Eastman is a better guitar.

Unless you "need" a smaller guitar for traveling or whatever....get the 114 !!
The Mini is a great second or third guitar, but not so much as an "only" guitar.

Is only a Taylor in the running?

thanks for the comments! i am very fortunate to own 2 Taylor's. ( 8 string baritone and 616ce Macassar. The recent price drop on the 100 series is a really great value hence my "dilemma". I was thinking about trying to get my g/f to play and thought the mini would be better for that?

Default Taylor GS Mini Roswood or 114e?

Given your current stable, if it were me I'd go for the Mini. Greater variance from what you already have. And yes the short scale and narrower nut width won't hurt if your gf starts playing.

You could always take her to the store and see which one she likes better?

Agree. If it were to be your only guitar, I'd say get the 100 series, but since you have two nice full size, get the mini. Great for travel, playing on the couch, etc.

+1.

10304cpg, if you had no other guitars, I'd recommend a full size but the GS Mini is a really nice guitar. Great to use on the couch. $600 for a GS Mini seems high, they're usually $499 in the US/Canada. I take it you're located elsewhere?

For tone, based on the 2 or 3 of each I've played, the 114, no contest.

thanks all! we are located in maine and the closest guitar store is 2 1/2 hours one way. We will be trying to go to the shop in the next week or two. I can get a regular mini for $500 Dru Edwards. But i am a sucker for good looks and my g/f happens to like the rosewood as well. And Dru Edwards, just wanted to say thanks. I have been pretty much looking at the AGF forum on a daily basis, and you comment on a lot, and give honest nice answers, thanks!

Only heard the GS Mini. That's what my wife (5'1" tall) bought for herself after hearing a friend's. It is small, like she wanted, and sounds really good when she plays along with me on one of my Martins.
