The Gruhn Guitars are finally available and I have one on the way.

I opted for the mahogany/cedar with pickup. I visited George a few weeks ago and he was pretty excited about how good they were turning out. I played with the prototypes he had upstairs. He said the production models would be much better and overall he was sure they’ll be a unique and incredible insturument. I had to know. I should see it this week.

If it's anything like my Tacoma Chief, you'll be happy. That ancestor has is a very efficient producer of tone and sound. Only 3 1/2 inches deep, but it thumps out bass like a dred. Less than four pounds, too. It reminds me of an archtop for its power, but with much more sustain. My Chief doesn't have the refined, smooth tone on my Tacoma roundholers, though. It's a bit brash and unrefined, and perfect for Blues. Cedar and mahogany was the original Chief formula, so that's a good choice.

My first really nice guitar was a chief I bought new in 2002/3. It was awesome and has always had me wishing for thinner smaller bodies cuz that’s really what I learned on and feels familiar and right to me. The rosewood option was tempting just out of curiosity, but hog/cedar just made sense per the original design.

It's an interesting-looking guitar. How would one go about internal repairs, such as a loose brace, should such an occasion arise?

On the original Tacoma Wing series guitars, that was a problem. I've heard Gruhn saying that his new ones will have a side hatch on the lower bout for easier pickup installation and repair access.

The old ones you'd take the neck off and there was a decent enough space there to get your hand in...not so easy to fix certain things but at least you had access. I am sure that was all considered this time around, but we'll see.

They start at around $2500 and go up based on options. They made one really dolled up one with binding and shel purfling and stuff that I assume was probably more like $3500, but not sure.

I played the prototypes and they were really loud and clear-voiced. The ones he had to show me were made by another company, one he'd intended to just make them for him, but he wasn't satisfied with the outcome, so he decided to just start a shop and hire his own team to make them. I was impressed with the ones he thought weren't good enough, so I am excited to see what did meet his standard.
