Default how long does it take to...

make a bone saddle (replace one) and intonate? On average? (non-compensated saddle) - very experienced tech (i.e., not me!)

Smile Depends

How often has the tech (or you) done it?

The more the speedier…. So to say, I figure

Some of you who do this stuff will chime in soon, no doubt!

Cheers

Paul

With the proper tools, blank to buffed ~ 10 minutes.

I watched Tim McKnight go from saddle blank to installed in about 5 minutes. Including compensated B string. I was speechless. Watching a true master craftsman at work was awe inspiring.

I don't know but, it takes me about 15 minutes to drive to my tech each way. Then about the same a week later, so ... about 1-2 hours depending on traffic. It would take me much longer to try to make one myself and it would never be perfect.

I would never attempt this. I was wondering what a reasonable time would be to expect the tech to finish that job.

From my experience, with a top-tier luthier, about $100 worth of time/materials.

Right on. Finished it in time for me to pick it up today - taking it with me on a trip, leaving tomorrow, all good.

I also picked one up yesterday. Had the bridge slotted, new saddle made, full new set up and all is good.
