I probably spend way too much concern on picks. I am constantly trying new ones or modifying the ones I have. The good news is it does pay off and costs relatively little in guitar terms.

I have 1 Blue Chip and 2 Dava Control picks in each guitar case. The rest sit unused in a candy dish in the living room where I play at home.

Aside from the above, I could probably dump the rest of them in the trash but I am saving them for my kids or visitors to use. There's probably 50+ in that dish

Whoever the next owner of my home will be, they'll be able to win this little contest whenever they decide to renovate something. There are picks everywhere- under radiators, behind kitchen cabinets, even in walls (don't ask).

And what variety! Thumbpicks custom bent at a good angle for dobro, others at a good angle for fingerstyle acoustic. Loads of fingerpicks meticulously shaped for different tone. And of course, all of those standard flatpicks of various thicknesses and shapes from that lost time when I thought I could become a bluegrass head-cutter!

Strictly bare fingers picker here. But I keep a few flatpicks in my travel guitar gigbag just in case I lend it to another player. (That's my cheapest guitar and the only one I share.)

Cool How many picks do someone need?

I have 10 thumb pics, different colors, but they appear to be the same thickness. And I bought a lot of 200 picks from a Chinese supplier, and about half were pearloid, and each color had a different thickness. I kept those (purple, silver, gold, blue, green & tortoise) and gave the rest away to others.

While 118 picks and counting seems like a lot to me, I'm sure my collection is meager compared to many others on this forum. So how many do you have? The winner (for lack of a better descriptor) gets the honorary title "High Potentate of Perpetual Plectra".
He needs one.
