D 18Ge with 1 11/16ths?
Does anyone know if Martin or any shop custom orders the D18ge in the mod V with a 1 11/16th neck?
Thanks |

I suppose you could order anything you want ... but I doubt anyone would have commissioned such a guitar on spec ... the neck is part of what makes it a Golden Era.

Gotta agree, I've owned GE's and Authentics, the necks and nut widths are part of the package. A GE without the wide nut and Mod V isn't a GE anymore, and if everything counts (I believe it does), those chunky necks with more mass just may contribute in a minor way to the overall sound. My .02

There are quite a few flat pickers who prefer the narrower necks of the post-39 Martins, Clay Hess and Jack Lawrence among them. Both the Clay Hess (D-18) and Jack Lawrence (D-28) signature guitars are GE's with 1 11/16" nuts. You might ask Jon Garon about that as he was heavily involved with the creation of those guitars.
The Dan Tyminski model is a rear-braced Style-28 GE with a 1 11/16" nut. The Del McCoury models are both GE-braced guitars with 1 11/16" nuts. The D-18 is rear braced and I believe the D-28 is forward braced. |

Thanks for all the replies. While I typically prefer wider necks, I do not in the mode v neck profile.
Thanks again for the other model suggestions, I was just curious if anyone had seen such a beast. |
