Default Blown away by Guild Orpheum OM (rosewood)

14-fret model... (I believe there may also be/have been a 12-fretter.)

Anyone own this model? I was NOT expecting to love this guitar this much. I wasn't even there to play it and wouldn't have considered it had the salesman not pointed me toward it.

I've got it reserved til tomorrow when I'll head back to A/B it against my Collings OM1.

If it strikes me like it did today, it's probably coming home with me!

Wow!!

Someone was selling one in the classifieds recently (no relation) that looked like a great deal. Haven't played one in person, but they looked like very nice guitars. Look up Tyler Ramsey "Ravens Shadow" for a great sounding clip!

Here's hoping you bring it home so we can all live vicariously through you!

Default Orpheum Guilds

By all accounts they are wonderful guitars. Glad you found one.

I remember having seen that one in the classifieds and went through them, searched, and couldn't come up with it. I also listened to the Raven's Shadow clip and it sounded very much like I recall the one I played today. Articulate, rich, huge sounding... just amazing.

That said, my experience was very interesting. The store had two and I played each. One was the one I put on hold and the other one, while nice, was -- to my ears -- definitely missing something. It sounded a bit thinner to me and didn't ring quite as nicely. They were both heavy for their size, which also surprised me.

Of course, I had just played an OM-18 Authentic that was light as a feather and also superb... it was very airy, super sensitive, almost delicate, as in you had to know just how to play it... but also about 2x the price of the Guilds.

When Fender sold Guild to Cordoba, there were some factory blemish guitars sold to clear inventory. Make sure they are both New and with full warranty, when it comes to brass tacks. I'm not sure why one would sound so different.

All the guys I read from that have an Orpheum, really like them !

JohnW,

These, apparently, are among the B stocks that you mention. So, sold as used with no warranty. Which means much less than MSRP.

I've never bought a new guitar... or amp, for that matter. But are there specific problems that people are having with the Orpheums?

I have a 14 fret Guild Orpheum OM in mahogany.

It is a wonderful guitar that compares favorably to Collings and other much more expensive guitars. Way out of the standard Guild ballpark.

I've got one, too.

Love the guitar-it's really surprisingly good. I really didn't want to like it, and save the $, but once I played it, I knew it was right up there.

Seriously nice guitar.
