Strings to tame Taylor brightness?

A bright guitar is a blessing when playing with flesh. You might try Weirs PB, they sound dark and rich. You get more overtone richness than that of nickle but still tame the brightness.

80/20 strings have fundamental bass notes and bright trebles, I wouldn't go there.

Another option is to get a bass player to play along with you. That might give you the sound you're looking for.

I don't know about strings but it sounds like you might want to get a hogtop.

It won't help on most....I have 80/20 on a LL-16 yamaha right now....its a rosewood guitar....impossible to tame the treble....it gets thin sounding if you try. Maybe polyweb elixir will....that's my next try

Wow...zombie thread revival after almost 9 full years. OP probably solved it by now though.

My advice would be try different picks. Yep. That made a huge difference to my Taylor's sound and generally even less expensive than strings!

I've tried everything....all types of picks...it does cut down on some treble but not enough. I'm going to try elixir polywebs next....I know they are darker with a lot less overtones.

I would definitely try the Martin Retro Monel strings, which tamed the brightness of my GS Mini to create an entirely different, and wonderful, sound.

This zombie taylor thread is quite hilarious. The Taylor"brightness" is like the elephant in the room of taylor. And now they have the "V" bracing to make them even brighter????

If you like taylors, but not their brightness, then try the all hog one or the 322/324 with the blackwood top, totally different deep rich tone from the normal taylor sound.

Have you tried Taylor's own picks? Their Thermex Ultra Blue Swirl really darkens the tone. Dunlop Primetones are OK too and, of course, you have the famous Blue Chip. Good luck!
