Couldn't figure out why the pickguard looked really bad...
The guitar was purchased used. Even so, it is in pristine condition otherwise. Immaculate. Showroom.
I couldn't quite get my head around how a guitar could be perfect but equipped with a pickguaurd that looked like it had been on tour with AC/DC. I wondered if the instrument had actually been heavily used but the dealer used some kind of polish on the nitro finish or something. It didn't make sense and bothered me every time I held it. The pointy end of the teardrop actually looked like it was delaminating, that the surface was peeling away from the substrate. Some of you are laughing already.  Anyway, it bothered me so much that I began picking at the delamination like a little kid picks at a scab. Then I realized why it looked so bad...  DOH! I even went so far as to order a new pickguard from Holter. I have ten year old cameras with the protective plastic still on it. I never take the protective plastic off anything. And there the pickguard is, virgin, waiting for it's first scratch. I guess that's what it's for, right? At least now it matches the rest of the guitar. These things really ought to come with instructions or a card with a link to a "Getting started with your new guitar" video or something. Is there anything else I need to know?

I restrung one of my guitars recently (Martin Monels, so good) but anyway I noticed the back of the tuners looked grey, dull. There were little plastic covers on them. Had the guitar since 2011, never noticed them!

I just bought a lightly used Guild M20 that still had the plastic on it. I just took it off after three weeks.

Yep. Worse, it happened to me twice. But I didn't order a new one before I figured it out.
