Yep, I’m a morning guy, too. Now that I’m retired I have 1 1/2 hours set aside after breakfast every morning to play my guitars. My happy place. Sets a good tone for the day. (See what I did there. )

Sorry to hear about your hands, Jim. Hope the you are on the mend soon!

I also love morning playing. For some reason my OM1 sounds best in the morning. Don't know if my ears are just more attune after a good night's sleep or what?

I am definitely not a morning person and I am retired. Afternoon and evening for me. Mostly ukulele with some guitar.

I love playing in the morning

I do too, but it's kind of hit or miss if I have to work, like this morning. (Part-time retired gig.)

But if it's a hit it's a howl.

And my voice seems better earlier in the day.

But I do some of my best noodling late at night playing quietly.

Don

Dang! Sorry to hear that, buddy. Hope it clears up soon.

Not a morning person. I will play in the morning but only on occasion. Mostly late afternoons. But for me playing the guitar is something I do to wind down, so I kind of want to get wound up first so I can sit down with my guitar and relax.

My guitars always sound better in the morning when my ears are fresh for the day. I’m an early riser anyway.

Absolutely the same for me, a morning player and writer.
I find as others have said, that the new day allows me a fresh perspective. Yesterday I was locked into a timing problem for a song I am writing. First thing this morning I solved that problem. When you step away and give it some time, the answer becomes a bit more clearer.
After I have completed some physical labor, and it is later in the day, I am spent. (working on the back yard right now and moving stones & dirt around) Just don't have the inspiration when I am tired out. )
I asked a similar question just a few days ago in the recording section. I wanted to know if the times where similar for people who like to record versus writing and playing.

I find that during the work week, I play after getting home. But during the weekend when off, it's morning time while letting the first cup of coffee of the day sink in.

Night time is a right time for me anyways

I dont think I´ve ever touched my guitars in the morning...
Either I have to go to work - or it is a sleepy time time

Even my stereo doesnt sound right before late afternoon..
I need to get all my day jobs done first, get them out of way..
I can only enjoy music after that.

Sonny Rollins said after the session of one the greatest jazz recordings of all time- Way Out West:
".. Man I´m hot now .." - and it was at 7 AM after it was all done....

Weekend mornings for sure!! I drove 45 minutes this morning at 8:00 am to rehearse with my buddy who plays mandolin. My daughter who is in her first year of college almost made me cry, said she cried last Saturday morning missing hearing me playing on the couch with my coffee. Great thread!
