Default NGD: Taylor AD17

it was actually delivered yesterday, not today. but close enough.

with kids going into college, it was time to "downsize" my guitar. So, out with the Bourgeois DS Country Boy 12-fret, and in with the Taylor AD17.

While it doesn't match the Bourgeois, I'm happy. And I got a great deal via reverb. I think it's even be a little louder than the Bourgeois, will take some time getting familiar with the new guitar and getting accustomed to the nuances. and it's my first guitar that isn't spruce/mahogany, so fun getting to know the new personality. This AD17 is from 2021, before Taylor switched to Walnut, so it's sitka / ovankol.

Thanks. It does sound great. Years ago, I had a 1997 Taylor 414 (back when the 400 series was mahogany), but this is the first time I've ever played a Taylor newer than that 1997.

Great guitar!! I'm really impressed with Taylor's American Dream series. They are totally different from the Taylor sound that I'm used to. I currently have two from the AD series and they are getting a bunch of play and most of my gigs.

I know that the current AD17 black top's have Walnut back & sides. is yours before the switch to walnut (and has Ovangkol, like mine)? I'd probably be happy with either, but I've definitely been enjoying the ovangkol.

definitely impressed. And it's definitely a different sound than my old 1997 Taylor 414. But honestly, I haven't played too many other recent Taylors, so I can't provide a good comparison. But I really like what I'm getting from the AD17.

Honestly, the biggest adjustment for me is the neck. My old Bourgeois sort of had a soft V neck. And the Taylor feels a slightly flatter and wider. (it's definitely slightly wider at 1 3/4, while my Bourgeois was 1 23/64). But I figure in another few days, my hands will adjust and this will be the new normal

I agree with this. For me, it's cedar-topped Taylors from the 1990s, a GS mini, and now an AD27 (all-mahogany) I just picked up today! Emphasized midrange, but most importantly "round" trebles. It's very different than most other Taylor models I've played recently. I'm enjoying it so far. Hope to review it after have had more time with it.

Something about the combination of dark stained ovankol with the natural top is giving off early 20th century vibes. That's a classy looking guitar.

Yes, indeed. Taylor originally called it "deep Urban Sienna color treatment for the ovangkol back and sides".
