I have not seen that before, 3 piece laminated yes, but then the lining glued on later to the inside section. Also, if you look at the top of the pieces he is holding before laminating, you can see the kerfed piece is not as wide as the sides making me think he has to have two of those to match the width of the sides. I doubt they have any influence on sound, I was thinking more about added weight.

Tom, Rye is incorporating guitar design concepts pioneered by Australian luthier/engineer/author Trevor Gore (https://goreguitars.com.au/) who advocates the use of falcate bracing and stiff/high mass rims in his instruments. Originally, many achieved the added rim mass by attaching weights but it is important that the mass be integral with the rims.

And some headstock pics. The back of the headstock is Birdseye maple to tie in with the back. I really like the tapered part going onto the neck…one of the great things about a custom build is when you’ve figured out nut width and neck thickness which are a bit out of the norm but really fit my hands and relieve some thumb tendon pain that I get on thinner necks…my granddaughter says Yes [emoji119]!!

Hey Jeff, it’s looking amazing. I really like his headstock, but he has assigned himself quite the challenge when it’s time to purfle and bind.
When I start feeling sorry for myself when I have to bind one of our pegheads, I’ll pull out this pic and think, “it could be worse”. That said, doesn’t he do clean work? Mercy! Steve |
