Default Yamaha FG180 Saw an iteresting one today

On Yamaha's archives they list the FG180 as a guitar from 66-74. Those would be the red lable. The archive says 3 piece back? Well mine (a 69-70) has a 2 peice and as far as I knew that was the norm.
The one I saw today was made in Tiawan. The peg head looks like an FG1500 on the outside it has a Maple striped 3 peice back. Inside shows a 2 piece. So, not solid wood
The sound was soso, but the strings were 20 + years old.
Does anyone have any further info?

Hmmm... The strings were old enough to vote. I wonder if that had anything to do with it?

I think my FG-180 is a 12 piece back - I mean how many laminate layers are there on each half?

lofapco - if I may step in front of Junkie here.
This is a laminate top etc. A few Yammie Jumbos
from that era have been popping up on Ebay the
last few months. They sold for a little less then the
price on that one. It's prolly a decent beater.
I would offer the seller about 2/3 of what they are asking.
I haven't played any of these Yamaha Jumbos.
Has anyone here?

Darn, it got deleted by the seller before I got to see her!
A great, easy to acquire fer cheap is the F335. Sub $200. Knock it off with that plug in stuff
BTW I have 2 solid topped Jumbo Yamaha's (CJX12, Compass north) the tones are fantastic.

Thanks, I agree. She sounds as good as she looks. I have turned down offers of 3X what I paid for her. The Japanese collectors are having a ball with the USA "Play Money"
