I use strings from Euphonon: http://www.hotworship.com/euphonon/

Why? Because they sound just as good as Martin or D'Addario (imho) and they're cheap.

Elixir Phosphor Bronze Custom Lights.

I play them because they sound right, feel terrific and last a long time for me.

I use Elxir med nano 80/20s on my rosewood Yari, Elxir med nano PBs on the Recording King, and Elxir light nano PBs on both my Breedloves and i have a set of Marten 80/20 lights on my Yamaha OM. I really like the Elxirs,They sound good there easyer on the fingers and i can usually leave them on a guitar for 3 sometimes 4 months before they start soundin dead.

I bought a set of Martin Folk Style strings the other day. Not only were they packaged two strings to an envelope, the labels on the envelopes were incorrect for the strings they were supposed to contain.

Not fun for a first time string changer

rares and sunbeams are quite different actually.

Rares are hex core while sunbeams are round core.

The difference is this.. most strings nowadays are hex core because they "bite" into the windings, so it prevents the windings from slipping off. but also cos this hex core, tensions are higher.
The sunbeam is roundcore so there's more winding surface in contact with the core wire. This prolongs sustain abit but it is noticeable.

Sound wise, they're both pretty similar seeing they're both DR products.
But the sunbeams, also cos of the roundcore, have a lower tension, so they're easier to play/bend/hammer etc.. I've tried both and i've stuck with sunbeams.. love the playability and the increased sustain. =)

hope it helps.

Hi Tarnisher...
For non-coated I use WebStrings.com or Martin or Musician's Friend's bulk strings.

For coated, I like either Elixir Nano phosphor bronze or EXP both in 80/20 and phosphor bronze (depending on the guitar).

I don't find any difference in non-coated bulk strings from any of the three sources I use, and prefer bulk since on my four guitars I use .012 on two and .011 on two. One of each gets 80/20 and the other phosphor bronze - so that's four types/weights of string combinations.

WebStrings.com is the only one that lets me mix and match weight and formula to total my bulk order.

On my Fender Gemini II - Martin Phosphor Bronze (light)
On my Applause Summit - Elixir (light)
On my Cordoba 20Estudio - D'Addario Extra Tension (I tried Gallistrings once but prefer the D'Addario)

On my other acoustics - Elixir or whatever I can actually afford at the time (usually D'Aquisto)

On my electrics - D'Aquisto (9.5) - I get a great deal on these at a local store.

Mandolin - Elixir

12-String - Elixir

Yep. Only by phone. No credit cards either, but the last time I ordered, they shipped without waiting for my personal check to clear. Very pleasant folks to deal with.

I tried a few sets of webstrings. Sounded good for a while but died quickly (at about the 1 week point). You might have better luck though. I have a set of Curt Mangan's on now. Richest sound of any I've tried to date and are holding up well after 2 weeks.

Woody, I honestly can't tell the difference. 'Course that could be from 23 years in a machine shop and several thousand rounds of large caliber handgun ammo
