Thumbs up Played two nice Taylors at Melodee Music

Last evening, I went over to Melodee Music to try a custom GS that I saw on their website. It has Macassar Ebony b/s and an Adi top. The guitar was absolutely beautiful to look at - tasteful eye candy.

On top of that, its sound was superb as well. Being brand new, it was still a little tight, but give it a year or so of play time and that guitar will sound incredible to anyone's ears.

Also, I played their Koa Ltd. and it was an excellent guitar as well. The Koa was just as good looking as my PS and the sound was impressive too. I'm not a big fan of Koa with Sitka, but this guitar sounded good!

I'm very impressed with both guitars. If you get the chance, I would suggest that you pay them a visit.

Wow - the back on that Custom GS is unreal !

How lucky you are, WalkinMan - to live so close to a music store with an inventory like that... try living on PEI, where we don't even have a Taylor dealer...

You should see it in person. The pictures don't do it justice.

It's a blessing and a curse. I can look at many wonderful guitars, but I don't have the money to take 'em home.

I've been down in that area a couple times recently, bringing one of my sons to a Lego convention at the Sheraton Premiere near Tysons Corner, and again just yesterday for a visit to the Udvar-Hazy hangar (at Dulles-- oh, so worth the trip).

I'd thought of trying to find Melodee both times, but my impression is that the traffic in that area gets hairy indeed, and I didn't want to get caught in that-- especially with both beltways (495, 695) to survive on the homeward journey.

If I'm going to be down there again, I might check in with you to see if you have a Survivalist's Guide to living through the traffic. :-)

Cheers,
Sarah S.

Sorry, but there is no known written guide for these parts. We natives have used and memorized hidden pathways to navigate through the rough terrain. If you would like to hire a native as a guide, I would be more than happy to accompany you for $24 worth of guitar trinkets.

HA!

It looks like I'll be back in August '09, if not before:

I just might take you up on your offer. :-)

I found that out about a month ago. I stopped into my local GC on one of my 2-3 days a week checkout on what might have come in used trips,......

.......and i happened to over hear a couple of guys taliking about how great the "New" Taylor 814-CE sounded when they played it. I searched it out along the walls in the acoustic rooms,........and they were right!

After about 15 minutes of playing it,.....took it home right away. It was a brand new 2008 model,.......and sounds really special. I hardly ever buy anything new, especially "local" with tax,.... but i couldn't resist this one.

Umm I think that I need some new strings or something... I think that I will try and make it over to Melodee for lunch today. And as for navigating the area, we are far enough west that you should think route 15 to 70. Much prettier to drive than the various beltways. Speaking of Melodee, what is your experience with them setting up your guitar?

Saw the limited and the custom today didn't get a chance to play them they were really busy getting ready for the barktoberfest. Boy is the limited beautiful, and I didn't even see the front. I may try and go by to Bark-fest and see if someone is working the acoustic room.
